Szczecin is located on the Oder River, south of the Szczecin Lagoon and the Bay of Pomerania. The city is situated along the southwestern shore of Dąbie Lake, on both sides of the Oder and on several large islands between the western and eastern branches of the river.

The city has an abundance of green areas: parks and avenues. A portion of the Szczecin Landscape Park, in the forest of Puszcza Bukowa, lies within Szczecin's boundaries.

The Ducal Castle in Szczecin, Poland, was the seat of the dukes of Pomerania, who ruled the Duchy of Pomerania from 1121 to 1637.

Major cultural events in Szczecin are:
  • Days of the Sea held every June.
  • European Night of Museums
  • Street Artists' Festival held every July.
